10:00 – 10:30 AM    Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program Awarded Projects in Arts in East Asia and the Pacific

Artists who went to East Asia and the Pacific through the Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program will share outcomes of successful Fulbright projects and experiences. Session attendees will gain insights into the Fulbright Scholarship process and results for artistic endeavors abroad for visual culture and scholarly practice.

10:30 AM – 12:00 PM    Interactive Story/Text Based Game Making Workshop

In this workshop, participants will learn how to use Twine (Twinery.org), a simple tool for making text-based games or in other words, learn how to make interactive nonlinear stories. No prior experience is necessary. Bring your own laptop!

12:00 – 12:30 PM    Artist-Centered Platforms: A Toolkit for Algorithmic Resistance

This workshop invites participants to explore the possibilities of artist-produced software to create new forms of co-presence and collaboration. Participants will use the glitch.com to explore how interactive sound, video, text and gesture can be integrated into purpose-built platforms that address the needs of dynamic environments like the studio classroom.

12:30 – 2:00 PM        Land Acknowledgement Workshop

Participants are invited to engage with the practice of land acknowledgement on a personal level as a creative and critical process of decolonization through guided exercises exploring their relationship to stolen Indigenous land and reflecting on the history, presence, and future of Indigenous Peoples to whom that land belongs.

2:00 – 2:30 PM        Crowdsourcing Rapid Response Resources for Remote Learning During Covid-19

Introducing the rapid response crowdsourcing of art and design resources for educators on social media to teach remote studio-based courses during COVID-19. Lightning presentations address successful online/hybrid practices. Presenters discuss where we go from here, the complexities of coordinating with administration, and the impact on students/faculty.

Artist parents discuss their pandemic survival tactics, including new and revisited resources, funding, creative technology, and community building strategies. Panelists discuss changes in their practices, collaborations, creative career choices, and new, never expected challenges. They consider how they have or haven’t found a new balance in the new normal.

4:00 – 4:30 PM        Exploring Contemporary East Asian Artists’ Practice in the U.S.

Contemporary Asian art draws a significant part of the global art communities. This session introduces the audience to the visual artists’ practices who have migrated from East Asia. These artists’ works reflect the central issue of cultural identities and their multi-dimensional perceptions that tie to traditions in East Asia.
