What does it mean to draw into the page?
If you could turn a picture plane filled with holes and circles into a world of portals, where might they lead you?
Lucia Calderon Arrieta will show us how to use line, shape, and value to create interconnected forms that are mysterious and mesmerizing, casting an illusion of depth and inviting us into many different layers of space. During quarantine, many of us have experienced moments of retreat, or turning inwards. Lucia will show us how she uses this drawing practice to embrace those feelings, and dig into the picture plane rather than trying to expand off of it.

No drawing experience is needed for this meditative and abstracted project. We will use very easy drawing techniques to create our own complex and individual worlds of holes and portals within the seemingly flat surface of our paper, with an option to write short creative responses about where these lead, what creatures might occupy them, and what powers they might possess.

Suggested Materials
+ Any kind of paper
+ Drawing tools with a very sharp point (fine pens, pencils)
Optional Materials:
+ Cutting tools for your paper
+ Mylar and paint pens for a multi-layered drawing
+ Tablet for digital drawings
