Tiger Strikes Asteroid is pleased to present Gush, a two-person exhibition featuring work by Stacza Lipinski and Paul Nudd, curated by Debra Kayes, with graphic design by Jared Sawdey. Stacza Lipinski and Paul Nudd both approach art by exploring and contrasting the concepts of “ugly” and “pretty.” The title for the show, Gush, speaks toward that dichotomy as a zit might gush puss or one might gush over a painting or love interest. For this show, Lipinski and Nudd have created a variety of collaborative pieces, including installations, videos, and sculptures.
Stacza Lipinski (b. 1976) received a BFA in painting from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and an MFA in painting from the Ohio State University. She has exhibited work at Noyes Cultural Art Center, Evanston Art Center, Western Exhibitions, Zg Gallery, and Hyde Park Art Center. She works in her home studio in Chicago.
Paul Nudd (b. 1976) was born in Harpenden, England. He received his MFA in Studio Arts from the University of Illinois at Chicago in 2001. Nudd currently divides his time between Cicero and Chicago, where he teaches comics at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Recent exhibitions include Bourouina Gallery (Berlin), Germany, Jack the Pelican Presents (Brooklyn), and Western Exhibitions and Hyde Park Art Center (Chicago). Notably, Nudd was awarded the Illinois Arts Council’s Artist Fellowship in 2009.
Debra Kayes is an artist, designer, and Associate Professor of Instruction at Columbia College Chicago. Debra has shown her art and design projects in venues such as the Illinois State Museum, the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, the Chicago Artists Coalition, The Hyde Park Art Center, and the Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts. She is a former Convergence Academies Research Fellow and Chicago Artists Coalition Hatch Projects resident. She is currently a member of Tiger Strikes Asteroid, Chicago. Debra curated the exhibition Over & Over, an exhibition about pattern and repetition at Columbia College Chicago’s Glass Curtain Gallery, which was reviewed in the Chicago Tribune.
