Water Street Studios New Exhibitions: “Inspired Response” by Lisa Goesling and Dave Wensel in the Dempsey Family Gallery and “On the Verge” by John Kirkpatrick in the 2nd Floor Gallery.
Water Street Studios’ Dempsey Family Gallery will feature work by scratchboard artist Lisa Goesling and photographer Dave Wensel in its July show. In an unusual collaboration, Lisa’ Goeslings exquisite scratch board works are the powerful visual statements to which Dave Wensel has responded.
Lisa’s work is the result of a process wherein design, composition, depth/dimension and textural representational “problems” are continuously posed and expertly resolved as she works with her boards. To Wensel, her finished pieces look as if sublime music has been rendered for the eye.
To create his responsive work, Wensel deconstructed and redeployed certain conceptual elements of Ms. Goesling’s work in montages and assemblages using only photographs he has made from his studio and in-the-field work. The resulting work is referential (and reverential) reinterpretations of Lisa’s work.
In Water Street Studios’ 2nd Floor Gallery, John Kirkpatrick’s energetic and expressive abstract acrylic paintings will be featured in his exhibition titled, “On the Verge”. John, who is represented by Ross Contemporary, uses paint, texture and heavy lines in his work to convey emotion and express vitality.
The opening receptions will be held on July 13th from 6:00-9:00 p.m. The artists will be present at the reception to discuss their work and answer questions. In addition, appetizers will be provided by Gaetano’s Restaurant in Batavia, cash bar featuring beer from Solemn Oath Brewery and wine will be available for purchase. This event is free and open to the public. We encourage all visitors to make a $5 donation at the door to support arts programming at Water Street Studios. All exhibits continue until Sunday, August 5th, 2018. A special thank you to event sponsor, K. Hollis Jewelers.
Opening receptions will be held Friday, July 13th, from 6:00-9:00 p.m.
The shows in both galleries will be on view during regular public gallery hours: Friday, 2 to 6 p.m.; and Saturday and Sunday, 12 to 4 p.m. at 160 S. Water Street in Batavia, IL.
