BIOS:
LIA KOHL is a cellist and multidisciplinary artist based in Chicago. She creates and performs embodied music and multimedia performance that incorporates sound, video, movement, theatre, and sculptural objects. As a cellist, she is continually finding ways to include and privilege the body in sonic performances, whether in improvised, rock, or classical music. As a video artist, she explores absurd situations, dreamscapes, and the intuitive relationships between objects, people, and imaginations. As a performance maker she synthesizes her sonic and visual interests, while capturing the illusory and visceral quality of bodies on a stage.

She is a curator and ensemble member with the acclaimed performance ensemble Mocrep, with whom she has toured nationally and internationally. She has presented work and performed at the Art Institute of Chicago, the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, and held residencies at Mana Contemporary Chicago, High Concept Labs and dfbrl8r Performance Art Gallery. As an improviser she performs regularly around Chicago and with her clarinet/percussion/cello trio, ZRL. She tours regularly with Chicago based puppet theatre company Manual Cinema.

MACIE STEWART is a multi-instrumentalist improviser and composer from Chicago, IL. A classically trained pianist and violinist, she embraced free improvisation as a way to make music outside of traditional norms, while combining her varied influences and interests. Her style of improvising draws from her classical training as well as her experience playing folk and experimental rock music both nationally and internationally. She is currently touring with her band, Ohmme, Ken Vandermark’s Marker, and her own trio, The Few.
