CPG Publishers Fair

@ Elastic Arts

3429 W Diversey Ave #208, Chicago, IL 60647

Opening Saturday, November 11th, from 6PM - 6PM

On view through Sunday, November 12th

This year, the CPG announces its second iteration of the Chicago Printers Guild Publishers Fair to be held at Elastic Arts in Logan Square. Over the course of the two days, the CPG hopes to offer a strong platform of exchange for the public to intersect with artists who “make and engage in print”. In contrast to other fairs, artists will be present to sell and showcase their work in person. This is a chance to meet the person behind the artwork, and engage in the tradition rich print landscape of our region!

Saturday, November 11, a kick-off party will feature two guest speakers—namely local designer and director of the Chicago Design Museum, Tanner Woodford, and London-based artist and co-founder of the UK Poster Association, Luke Drozd. In addition, the CPG will be presenting a peer nominated practitioner award (Jolly Jogger Award) for outstanding work. After the talks, hang out, check out Drozd’s work, and dance to DJ Jan Jammerlappen’s jams!

The following day, Sunday, November 12, over 30 artists will be selling their self-published print work in this intimate and highly versed publishers fair. Here, the public has the opportunity to purchase original artwork from the artists directly. The majority of the work showcased is extremely limited. Things will sell out, so come out early to attend.

Join us in celebrating the deep legacy of Chicago’s print and publishing history by actively attending and supporting artists in this ever exciting medium!

Speaker Biographies:
Luke Drozd is a London based artist and maker. His work takes a variety of forms focussing on print and sculptural works, alongside performance as part of duo Reet Maff’l. He also works collaboratively with the UK Poster Association (UKPA), and is one half of curatorial team 38b Projects.
Luke will be presenting an overview of his artistic activity as an artist with a DIY outlook, looking at the work he does across the world of gig posters / commercial illustration, alongside his less commercial artistic practice and how these tie in with his collaborative and curatorial interests and projects with United Kingdom Poster Association, Black Dogs, Reet Maff’l and 38b Projects.

Tanner Woodford is founder, executive director, and bartender of the Chicago Design Museum, maker of Iterative Work, and faculty at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. He is irrepressibly optimistic, and believes design has the capacity to fundamentally improve the human condition.
