Anahita Ghazvinizadeh, (MFA 13) will be back at SAIC after producing her first feature movie, “They”, which is at post-production stage and will premiere in 2017. At this event, we will screen two short movies by Anahita. The event will be followed by a reception and discussion between the director and SAIC faculty member Daniel Quiles. We hope to hear from Anahita about her experience, career, and life as an international student, alumni, and filmmaker.

Anahita Ghazvinizadeh was born in Tehran. She obtained her BFA from the Tehran University of Art in 2011 and attended Abbas Kiarostami’s Filmmaking Workshop from 2007-2011. She graduated with an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2013. She has received many prestigious honors, including a Cinéfondation First Prize from the Festival de Cannes in 2013, a Silver Hugo from the Chicago International Film Festival, and Best Short Film, Best Directing and Best Short Screenplay Awards from the Festival of the Iranian Cinema. She was named one of Filmmaker magazine’s 25 New Faces of Independent Cinema and was a writing fellow at the Sundance Screenwriters’ Lab. Anahita’s latest movie, “They,” will be part of Cannes 2017 as part of her 2013 Cinefondation prize.

Daniel Quiles is an Associate Professor of Art History, Theory, and Criticism at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where he teaches courses on the theory and history of postwar art of the Americas. His research has appeared in academic journals such as Art Journal and ARTMargins, and he is currently writing a book manuscript titled Ghost Messages: Oscar Masotta and Argentine Conceptualism. He is also an art critic who has written for Artforum, Art in America, and DIS Magazine, among other publications.
