Transitional moments can happen anytime, anywhere. These shorts explore a variey of “coming of age” moments in the lives of people of all ages. Filmmakers will be in attendance for a Q&A after the screening. All Chicago Feminist Film Festival events are free and open to the public.

Just Another Day – (Jasmine Hart, USA) World Premiere
This short explores depression in Asian American youth and the stress many go through from expectations at school among peers and instructors to family life.

Cycologic – (Emilia Stålhammar, Veronica Pålsson, Elsa Lövdin, Sweden/Uganda) Chicago premiere
Urban planner Amanda Ngabirano’s biggest dream is to have a cycling lane in her city: chaotic, polluted and congested Kampala. An impossible task, according to most people, but not according to Amanda.

Flora – (Alexandrina Andre, USA) Chicago premiere
Flora, a transgender woman, is exposed to prejudice when she uses the women’s bathroom for the first time during a visit to a small cafe.

The Dressing Room – (Shannon McInnis, USA) Chicago Premiere
A young girl relates a dress-buying experience to a representation of her transition.

Dyab – (Mazin M. Sherabayani, Iraq) Chicago premiere
After the horrendous attacks by the Islamic State, Dyab is a 12-year-old Kurdish Yazidi boy living at Arbat refugee camp. His dream is to become a filmmaker and tell the stories and sufferings of his people to the outside world.

Parting – (Sitora Takanaev, USA) Chicago premiere
One year after her twin sister’s death, Mai receives a fortune cookie that contains a meaningful message. On the eve of her 12th birthday, she finds fortune cookies that contain a message she tries to connect to her life.
