Please join us in celebrating the release of Richard Cahan and Michael Williams’s new book, Un-American: The Incarceration of Japanese Americans During World War II. Cahan and Williams will talk about how the book was put together, greet people, and answer questions about the incarceration and its relevance today.

Un-American is a unprecedented look at photographs taken by government photographers showing what happened to 110,000 Japanese American men, women, and children who were forcibly removed from their homes and sent to incarceration centers for the duration of World War II. Wrote Booklist magazine: “The result is an intensely revelatory and profoundly resonant book of beauty and strength, history and caution.” Un-American includes images by Dorothea Lange, Ansel Adams and other government photographers.

Richard Cahan and Michael Williams have produced thirteen books together. Most are based on long-lost or forgotten photo archives or collections. Called “the eloquent archival sleuthing duo,” they have written award-winning books about photography, art, and history—including books on photographers Vivian Maier and Richard Nickel. They also co-own CityFiles Press, a publishing company.

The book is priced at $39.95. Authors will sign copies at the event.
