Now in its 16th year, LCA’s Nonprofit and Tax Exemption Workshops are designed to give you comprehensive – but easy to understand – instructions to apply for both state incorporation and for federal tax exempt status. We also provide a broad range of helpful and practical advice, including business, governance and financial matters for start-up nonprofits.

Our instructor is William E. Rattner, Executive Director of LCA from 2000-2014. He has the experience and background to teach you what you would otherwise have to retain a private attorney to do for you. We cover:

Incorporate?
Reasons to incorporate, reasons not to, and alternatives that can work for you.
How to Become a Corporation in Illinois.
Completing necessary forms, maintaining corporate status, drafting bylaws, statements of corporate purpose, directors’ meetings, filling necessary officers’ positions, and governance matters.
Tax Exempt Status — Do You Need It?
The reasons to obtain federal tax exempt status, reasons why you might not need to, and some alternatives that may work for you. We also provide advice about maintaining your tax exemption, activities to avoid and other operating issues.
How to File for 501(c)(3) Status.
Line-by-line instructions for completing the tax exemption application, and ways to achieve the best results from the IRS in the review of your application.
If you have problems completing your forms and applications, we are available after the Workshops to answer questions by phone or email. How do we know this works? Because those attending the Workshops tell us they’ve received their tax exemption.

The fee for one person is $100 or $125 for two people from the same organization. We encourage more than one person to attend. A full package of materials is provided.
