Neo Imagist

@ Sidewinder Gallery

4880 N Clark St, Chicago, IL 60640

Opening Friday, November 4th, from 6PM - 10PM

On view through Friday, November 25th

The Chicago Imagists were a group of representational artists associated with the School of the Art Institute of Chicago who exhibited at the Hyde Park Art Center in the late 1960s. Their work was known for grotesquerie and surrealism as well as challenging the status quo of the Pop Art scene of that era.

Neo Imagist is a group art show organized by Corinne Halbert, comics creator and Chicago-based painter and illustrator who intermingles the alarming and the bizarre with popular culture and every day life.

The show will feature other up-and-coming and mid-career Chicago-area provocateurs whose work blazes similarly beguiling and dangerous terrain.

Awash with bold black lines, explosive graphic verve, and cartoon-amped hyper-kinetic horsepower, Neo Imagist conjures the counterculture fearlessness of the original Chicago Imagists and Hairy Who artists of the 1960s, while barreling forward into entirely uncharted realms of thrillingly perilous possibility.
