Chicago Artists Coalition is pleased to present Twelve Variations, a group exhibition as part of the HATCH Projects Residency, featuring the work of HATCH Artist Residents Kristina Felix, Johana Moscoso, Jessica Bardsley, Kristin Nason, Rebecca Hamlin Green, and Victoria Bradford, curated by Jessica Cochran. Additional exhibiting artists include Allison Reimus, Dianna Frid, Scott Fortino and Ronny Quevado, Vesna Pavlovic, and Stephanie Brooks. Twelve Variations will have an opening reception on Friday, November 1 from 6-9pm at Chicago Artists Coalition located at 217 North Carpenter Street, and will continue through December 5, 2013.

HATCH Projects curator resident Jessica Cochran has been working with these six artists throughout the year-long curatorial and artist residency program at the Chicago Artists Coalition. In order to define a broader milieu for her group of artists, curator Jessica Cochran will pair each one to a non-resident artist with whom they share a strong link in the form of a shared thematic orientation or conceptual framework; in some cases the artists may be from different generations or geographic areas and most often they utilize entirely divergent artistic mediums. The resulting exhibition should not necessarily be a show of “paired works” but a group exhibition full of new associations: twelve variations.
Given its organizing principle, we see this exhibition as a multitude of variations on ideas. How do these twelve artists–six from the HATCH residency program plus six more curated in—each individually maneuver within the shared language of contemporary art or visual culture towards shared thematic orientations or conceptual frameworks?
