1001

@ Tom Robinson Gallery

2416 W. North Ave, Chicago IL

Opening Friday, April 26th, from 6PM - 9PM

The School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) presents 1001, a pop up exhibition opening Friday, April 26 at Tom Robinson Gallery (2416 W. North Ave) from 6-9pm. For one weekend only, this group show highlights the interdisciplinary work of students in the Advanced Fiber and Material Studies course.

1001, reemploys a sense of intimacy through artists’ individual investigations of objects, materials, processes, and personal histories. Throughout the exhibition, site and location are considered integral components to the conception and development of the presented works. The exhibition title ‘1001,’ (a reference to the suite location of the Advanced Studio classroom) functions as a reflection of the artists’ consistent engagement with space, boundaries, relationships, and community. As a result, their participation in such themes manifests in several different forms including contemplation, anxiety, and celebration. These sentiments provide open forums for conversation and dialogue amongst the displayed body of work and between groups or individuals.

From weaving to animation, paper to fabric, sculpture to photography, 1001 features a captivating and eclectic selection of work from a thoughtful group of artists.
