ACRE bids adieu for the season with a good old fashioned Pilsen block party! No cover, plenty of free stuff and cheap drinks as ACRE celebrates Chicago’s first official summer weekend. Before we head out to Wisconsin for the 2011 Residency Program, join the ACRE volunteer staff, along with residents old and new, while we lounge in the kiddie pool, and play games and activities for all ages including face painting, water balloon slingshots, temporary tattoos designed by artists, prize wheel, craft table, cheap yard sale and more! We’ll be grilling up some various proteins, veggie and non, and serving sno cones, homemade sparkling lemonade outside and harder (but no less refreshing) fare in the gallery. A city-owned moon bounce is in the works, as is a visit from the local fire department! Chicago musical acts Golden Birthday, Pooper and Pizza Dog will be block blasting at 6pm. Plus, all day long we’ve got great prints by residents and Chicago artists for sale in the gallery. Its sure to be a cool blast on a hot Summer day!

He Said She Said is joining 350.org’s global action on 10/10/10. This day is planned as a Global Work Party, a day to gather, raise awareness, and celebrate climate solutions. Thousands of people all over the world are hosting local gatherings, events and actions. Joining more than 2700 events in more than 150 countries, He Said She Said is hosting a silkscreen party. Artists have been invited to design a climate change themed print, which can be screened on whatever people bring to the event. Bring a T-shirt, or anything else you would have a print on. Beach Party

The Beach Party is a yearly art event/party that takes over the entirety of the gallery space, allowing artists to create large, temporary and interactive work, or small, thoughtful pieces that may get sprayed with water. We have invited a range of artists working locally and nationally to playfully address the theme of summer. Harking on all senses, beach cover bands provide music, inflatable sculptures, video, photo, murals and more address the visual, while misters and super-soakers cool down the viewers in the heat of this spectacle.

Using the theme of direction, three curators conceptualize their various interpretations of the word by dissecting the gallery into physical lanes.

Anthony Elms curates the work of artists Danielle Gustafson-Sundell, Shane Huffman, Erin Leland, Matthew Metzger, Sonny Venice and Philip von Zweck.

Katherine Pill curates the work of artists Madeleine Bailey, Samantha Bittman and Matt Nichols.

Philip von Zweck curates sub-curators Christina Cosio, Stevie Greco and David Roman.

Christina Cosio curates the work of artist Erik Peterson.

Stevie Greco curates the work of artists Jason Bryant, Todd Mattei and Caroline Picard.

David Roman curates the collaborative work of artists Matt Irie and Dominick Talvacchio.

In honor of Swimming Pool Project Space’s two year anniversary, the gallery’s outdoor space will be the location of Pool Party, an anniversary celebration.
