In keeping with threewalls’ tradition, Vie de Boheme is an immersive experience, inspired by early 20C Bohemia: the politics, music, art and fashion that inspired the counter-culture state of mind we describe as “bohemian.” Set in beautiful Maxim‘s, an exact copy of the art nouveau restaurant opened in Paris in 1893, Vie de Boheme will be the underground meeting place for the wanderers, adventurers and vagabonds in search of the good life.

Unlike any other event in the city, our spring benefit is an annual artist-designed and directed “experience” where guests become “part of the art.” Fortune tellers, poets, dancers, radicals and general bon vivants gather at our underground club to argue about art, life and love. As in all our past benefits, thematic costumes are encouraged!

Each year, threewalls produces limited edition glassware by Chicago-based artists in conjunction with the gala. This year’s glass is designed by collaborative artists Dutes Miller and Stan Shellabarger.

In 2010, we brought you 50 Artists/50 Aldermen, The Art of Touring, WHO’S YR SHAMAN?, Pit Worship: Montgomery Perry Smith, among other presentations and have exhibited hundreds of works for view. Outside the our gallery space, we have participated in the Lakeview Art Festival, campaigned for alderman Joe Moreno, and completed public murals in Wicker Park and Logan Square. Please help us continue to mount exhibitions and make art available to you. The evening will feature an art auction and a raffle. The Hills Esthetic Center opens their doors to the viewers, artists and greater community that have supported the gallery space in its inaugural year. The Hills Esthetic Center began in January 2010 and has developed throughout the year as a unique presence in Chicago’s artist-run gallery scene. We have been pleased to provide solo and group exhibitions for Mike Kloss, Frank Van Duerm, Scott Cowan and Katy Keefe, Joseph Mohan, ACRE Residency Program, Jessica Taylor Caponigro, Beach Party Participants, Caitlin Arnold, and Le Dernier Cri; the upcoming year features a calendar of shows with the same critical rigor and significantly local focus. We will continue to support emerging artists, curators, and artists groups, providing a space for the growth of ideas in Chicago.

On December 4th we will be hosting a silent auction and raffle, in addition to a Christmas gathering, with hopes of raising funds for improvements to the gallery. Artists include Caitlin Arnold, Jessica Taylor Caponigro, Scott Cowan, Edmar, Ron Ewert, Frank Van Duerm, Eric Fleischauer, Aron Gent, Emily Green, Drew Griffith, Michael Hunter, Leo Kaplan, Katy Keefe, Nicole Kita, Michael Kloss, Chad Kouri, Jason Lazarus, Joseph Mohan, Dustin Ruegger, Greg Stimac, Ben Speckmann and Nicholas Wylie. Cauleen Smith Fundraiser

Iceberg Projects and Threewalls are joining forces to support Cauleen Smith’s The Solar Flare Arkestral Marching Band Project. This project will take the form of a film, LP and exhibition.

Artists included in the silent auction: Paul Chan, William Cordova, Jamal Cyrus, Torkwase Dyson, Kianga Ford, Kira Lynn Harris, Lauren Kelly, Rodney MacMillian, Adia Millet, Pamela Phatsumo, Robert Pruitt, Carrie Schneider and Ishmael Randall Weeks.

Carrie Schneider will introduce Cauleen Smith, who will speak about and screen clips from the in-process project.

Art Book Swap Chicago

Organized by Regency Arts Press and New Art Dealers Alliance (NADA) in collaboration with The Art Institute of Chicago Library.

After the event, all remaining books will be donated to Urbana-Champaign Books to Prisoners for placement in prison libraries in Illinois.

Harold Arts invites you to take up residency for one-night only at the Longman & Eagle in Logan Square for Six Rooms. Local artists Jesse Harrod, Brian McNearney, David Moré, Edra Soto and Casey Ann Wasniewski furnish future suites in the skeleton of the boutique hotel. Odd couples Dan Bitney/Matt Lux (Tortoise, Isotope 217) and Joe Adamik/Jim Becker (Califone) test frequencies, disrupted by nosy neighbor Drone Baez, abstracting today’s favorite songs.

Six Rooms is a send-off for Harold Arts to raise funds for their fifth-annual residency program in July and August. The Harold Arts Residency Program is a unique opportunity for emerging and mid-career artists and musicians to work alongside their contemporaries in a pastoral environment.

Make a reservation for one-night in a half-dozen parts, as Harold Arts imagines the Longman & Eagle’s hive mind in a series of sculptural scenarios.

InCUBATE: Sunday Soup

Join us November 22nd from 5 to 7 pm to celebrate the final Sunday Soup at 2129 Rockwell. The members of InCUBATE and Sunday Soup Coordinator Jennifer Breckner will cook and reflect on past projects funded by the grant. We will also look at other groups that have implemented similar soup-grant models outside of Chicago. We’ll be making Vegetarian potato kale soup, homemade bread, warm Swedish glögg wine, sweet potato salad, and bread pudding, amongst other dishes. This night will be dedicated to Ben Schaafsma‘s memory. Come celebrate an early Thanksgiving with us.

InCUBATE: Sunday Soup with Carnal Torpor

In conjunction with the Heartland exhibition at Smart Museum, in collaboration with InCUBATE‘s Sunday Soup series, Heaven presents TRY: STATION SOUP, the third in an ongoing series of a performance-meals presented by the collective Carnal Torpor.

TRY experiments use food as the liturgical basis for exploring the nexus of ‘subjective’ and ‘objective’ aspects of human experience. By providing meals designed to engage various facets of eating such as etiquette, nutrition, and collective ecstasy, Carnal Torpor seeks to provide an embodied experience of ‘culture’ as ‘nature’ and vice versa.
