Join us on Saturday, March 25th, at 2 PM for the release of Yvonne Zipter’s new poetry collection as well as an inside look at her archival collection at Gerber/Hart! Enjoy snacks after the reading as well as delicious beverages provided by Eris Brewery and Cider House!

Yvonne will be reading from her new collection of poetry, The Wordless Lullaby of Crickets. She will be joined in conversation with Linda Bubon, one of the co-founders of Women & Children First books.

This event will also feature a special pop-up exhibit of Yvonne’s archival collection, including materials from Yvonne’s groundbreaking book on lesbians and softball – Diamonds are a Dyke’s Best Friend. The exhibit will be curated by Gerber/Hart volunteer Kaitlyn Griffith.

YVONNE ZIPTER is the author of the poetry collections The Wordless Lullaby of Crickets, Kissing the Long Face of the Greyhound, The Patience of Metal (a Lambda Literary Award Finalist), and Like Some Bookie God. Her poems have appeared in numerous periodicals over the years, including Poetry, Southern Humanities Review, Metronome of Aptekarsky Ostrov (Russia), Bellingham Review, and Spoon River Poetry Review. Her published poems are currently being sold individually in two vending machines in Chicago to raise money for the nonprofit organization Arts Alive Chicago. She is also the author of the historical novel Infraction and the nonfiction books Diamonds Are a Dyke’s Best Friend and Ransacking the Closet. She is retired from the University of Chicago Press, where she was a manuscript editor.

Linda Bubon

LINDA BUBON has been active in Chicago’s feminist community since the 1970s, co-founding Women & Children First, now one of the largest feminist bookstores in the country, in 1979. Now retired, she continues to do storytelling at the bookstore and elsewhere and hosts the monthly Women’s Book Group.
