Join us to celebrate the opening of Gonzalo Guzman’s exhibition Portrait of My Grandfather on March 25th from 7-10pm.

SHOW STATEMENT FROM THE ARTIST

Portrait of My Grandfather is a multimedia series examining the legacy of my mother’s father who immigrated to the United States in the 1950 in search of a better life. Although a familiar story, the details of his life are fragmented, lost to both time and age. As a way to document what I can now, this series looks to piece together his history through archival images, family accounts, audio recordings, and photo collaborations during our time living together.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Gonzalo Guzman (he/him) is a queer Latinx photographer and writer based in Chicago, IL. His work explores the experience of Latinx communities and the impact they have in the shaping of the current American landscape. Focused on fostering empathy and maintaining the authenticity of his collaborators, he hopes to share stories that broaden the perspectives of his viewers. He currently serves as a board member on American Photographic Artists National Diversity Committee where he creates educational opportunities for people from traditionally marginalized communities to enter the field of commercial photography. In his spare time he enjoys exploring the rich arts scene of Chicago and bomboarding his friends with memes on instagram.
