Oct 5th 2022

Part of our series of free screenings, Kino X 3: Migrant/Lives explores the experiences of women, queer, and trans immigrants in Germany.

After fleeing the war in Syria, teenage siblings Lohan and Samar, along with their family, settle in Germany, where they begin to express themselves more fully as transgender. As they experiment with makeup and hair styles – much to the admiration of their younger sister – the young women navigate growing into their new identities. Directors Laurentia Genske and Robin Humboldt follow the sisters through their day-to-day life over the course of three years, revealing the challenges Lohan, Samar, and their family face as they seek to rebuild a home and sense of self.
