Chicago, Il: Elephant Room Gallery is excited to present “Plant-Based”, a solo exhibition by abstract artist Jaime Foster. The exhibition opens on Friday, August 12th with a reception from 6 to 9pm and will be on view through September 24th. Elephant Room Gallery is located at 704 S Wabash Ave. in the South Loop Neighborhood of Chicago.

“Plant-Based” by Jaime Foster is an exhibition of abstract paintings that explore the textures, patterns and shapes that are found in nature. Jaime’s work takes on a life of its own as the paint blooms, flows, rushes and swirls. Some works resemble vast glacial landscapes while others contain intricate botanical patterns. The inspiration behind these works is clearly found in nature but Jaime has taken those elements and created abstracted visuals that give the subject new life and elicit an emotional response through her use of color and movement. Jaime’s passion for the fact that biodiversity is essential to life and that plants make our existence possible is translated into each work, resulting in a stunning homage to nature.

“The spiritual connection humans have with the natural world is as old as humanity. It’s an integral part of human nature whether we’re consciously aware of it or not. The natural world provides the vital necessities of life: water, food and air. It also provokes awe, wonder and exhilaration that touches our souls in ways we can’t completely describe. My work taps into our collective subconscious of the deep emotional connection we have with the environment and nature.”

About the Artist
Jaime Foster is a self-taught interdisciplinary artist living in the Chicagoland area. Following high school, she pursued freelance photography and started a photography business with her husband. After moving to Seattle, the beauty of the Pacific Northwest inspired Jaime to focus on painting. Returning to the midwest, Jaime has continued painting and exhibiting her work over the past 12 years. She is interested in the relationship we have with nature and our environment and how this can affect us on an emotional level. Her paintings feed off the fascination she has with Ecopsychology, Conservation and Biodiversity. Her work has been shown in galleries internationally and can be found in public and private collections.
