Damiane Nickles: Pass With Care

@ The Martin

2500 W Chicago Ave, Chicago, IL 60622

Opening Saturday, June 11th, from 7PM - 10PM

On view through Sunday, July 10th

Join us for the opening night of the solo exhibition by Chicago artist Damiane Nickles: PASS WITH CARE.

As a Represented Artist by The Martin in 2022, Damiane is one of only two artists given the opportunity to take over the entire gallery for his solo exhibition. Join us to celebrate his immersive creation that combines new work and themes developed by him in the last year.

Damiane Nickles is a painter currently working out of Chicago IL with roots in Brooklyn, NY. His work explores form, texture, and color through the use of layering to create a unique visual language that evokes feelings of spontaneity and uses recognizable characters to build intense walls of color. Nickles works primarily with acrylics and latex-based paints but works across a wide range of media.

From Damiane, about PASS WITH CARE:

“Whatever form of creative expression one practices, it can not exist without other members of one’s community (chosen or unchosen). Whatever visual language one chooses to use, it only exists as language in part because of the existence of those that can receive and interpret it’s meaning. In this way, creative expression is a fundamental expression of community and our social natures.

This show is an amalgamation of my community, the visual languages I speak and those who speak it with me. Pass with care is both a reminder and a set of instructions to our creative instincts. However you choose to create, consume, interpret, and engage with your creative community, always pass with care.”

The exhibition is open to the public from 7-10pm. All guests must provide proof of vaccination upon arrival. Masks are optional. A card-only bar will be available for purchase.

Want to pair your visit to the gallery with dinner at Split-Rail? We recommend making a reservation.

The Martin is ADA accessible.

PASS WITH CARE will be open through July 10th. You can find full exhibition hours and details on the work at our website: themartinchicago.com once the show opens.
