PARENT|ARTIST exhibition at Southspace
Southspace is a new art venue in Hyde Park! It is located at 1109 E 55th Street between Insomnia Cookies and Te’amo Boba Bar on the University of Chicago campus.
Southspace is hosting their first show, “PARENT|ARTIST,” open now through October 22nd, Monday through Friday from 3:00-6:00 PM and by appointment. An artist’s reception will be held from 6:00-9:00 PM on Friday, September 24th.
“PARENT|ARTIST” features artwork by artists who are parents or other parental figures. Parents who are artists (or artists who are parents) often take an alternate path in the art world with different experiences, opportunities, challenges, and barriers. This show celebrates artists who have taken that path with a selection of local parent-artists. Southspace was started by Clara and Christian Clarke, Hyde Park residents who are foster parents and Resident Heads at the University of Chicago. Christian is a stay-at-home dad (and an artist) and Clara is a social worker in a Trauma Intensive Care Unit.
“PARENT|ARTIST” featured artists:
Tracy Marie Taylor, @tracymtaylor
Lorimar Matos, @byoodeart
Janet Trierweiler, @jtrierweilerart
Rhiannon Yandell, @linear_chaos
Vel Kalum, @velkalum
Christian Clarke, @herbie_clarke
Artwork can be purchased in advance or while visiting the show at www.southspacecreative.com.
