LOCUS is thrilled to return with LOCUS: VII, the seventh iteration of the quarterly gallery exhibition that combines visual and literary artists in an anonymous creative experiment.
For this exhibition, our visual artists present a new or existing work that is shared anonymously with a literary partner who then responds with a brand new literary piece inspired by their partner’s work.
This online exhibition is supporting twenty-four artists across five states and six countries, welcoming in twenty-three artists to the exhibition and welcoming back one LOCUS Alum!
Our online exhibition will include the visual artwork and literary works, reaction videos from both sets of artists and a guided interview. Accessibility features include fully captioned videos, audio components to the literary works and image descriptions for all artwork.
Visual Artists: Julia Arnautova, Kezban Baskı, Ava Margueritte Cochrane, Jane Waggoner Deschner, Lauren Grudzien, Julius Jefferson, Charlie Manion, Gillian R. Marwood, Mario Romero, Rachel Ahava Rosenfeld, Adithyaa Sadashiv, MJ Sanqui
Literary Artists: Charlie Bean, Alicia González, Alex Gromacki, Khloe Janel, Kro Kroger, Michele Mekel, Jon Natzke, Charles Payne, Sav Robinson, Elon Sloan, haydee “hr” souffrant, Percy Van Ort
Any donations provided for the show go to support future LOCUS iterations as well as Artists Without Borders, a virtual artist talk featuring Black and Brown artists across Chicago.
Artists Without Borders is a collaborative effort between Azul Nogueron and Adam Polak, first conceived from discussions about the lack of representation in the mainstream artistic community. Their goal is to create new connections to uplift Black & Brown transgender artists and build community together, as they are too often marginalized and left out of the conversation.
There is no scheduled online programming for the opening – you will be e-mailed access to the full gallery show opening on Friday the 18th at 7pm CST.
