Join us for a reading with poet and scholar Philip Metres and poet and playwright Sarah Ruhl. Metres is the author of 10 books, including Shrapnel Maps, The Sound of Listening: Poetry as Refuge and Resistance, Pictures at an Exhibition, and Sand Opera. His honors include two Arab American Book Awards, an Adrienne Rich Award for Poetry, and fellowships from the Lannan Foundation and the National Endowment for the Arts. He is a professor of English and director of the Peace, Justice, and Human Rights program at John Carroll University. Ruhl’s plays include In the Next Room, or the vibrator play; The Clean House; and a translation of Three Sisters. Her books include 100 Essays I Don’t Have Time to Write and Letters from Max with Max Ritvo. Ruhl is the winner of a MacArthur Fellowship and a Samuel French Award for Sustained Excellence in American Theatre, a two-time Pulitzer Prize finalist, and a Tony Award nominee, among other honors.
