About:
Deep Listening is “learning to expand the perception of sounds to include the whole space/time continuum of sound” and “…discerning the effects on [our] body mind continuum, from listening to others, to art and to life,” as stated by Pauline Oliveros. Within this workshop, participants will experiment, improvise, and play with sound in collaboration with others specific to the site of the Chicago Artists Coalition and Tamara Becerra Valdez’s exhibition Build Your Self. It will conclude with a guided soundwalk outside and around the gallery to expand our listening field and to connect more fully with our current sonic environment in relation to ourselves as sonic receivers/reactors.
