Founded by Chicago artists Folayemi Wilson and Norman Teague, BlkHaUS is a Chicago-based design studio that explores design as a vehicle for social change. For their Commons Artist Project, BlkHaUS asks visitors to bring objects that represent their personal communities and photograph them in the Commons. The photographs are archived in a digital catalogue, the ‘Commons Collection,’ that is on display on the Commons and allows visitors to discover the personal and cultural values of the museum’s broad community. BlkHaUS’s project examines the ways museum collections convey meaning and reflect diverse narratives, inspiring cross-cultural dialogue and exchange.
