Music historian and Rebuild Foundation DJ in Residence Duane Powell presents a special discussion honoring Frankie Knuckles on what would have been his 65th birthday. Using material objects from the Frankie Knuckles vinyl collection as a starting point, Duane will investigate how Frankie created sanctuaries for the marginalized from his DJ booth. The legendary House spaces like the Warehouse and Power Plant became sacred to the LGBTQ+ communities they served.

This discussion launches a year of programming at Rebuild Foundation, exploring the notion and necessity of sanctuary, and its role in cultural creation. Following the talk, stick around for a very special Sunday Service with Duane playing a full set of digitized selections from Frankie’s collection.
