Azadeh Hussaini: ArchiWalls

@ Evanston Art Center

1717 Central Street, Evanston, IL 60201

Opening Sunday, January 19th, from 1PM - 4PM

On view through Sunday, February 16th

ARCHIWALLS showcases the abstract work of Azadeh Hussaini, who uses newspaper forms to question social behavior and other aspects of the human condition.

Azadeh Hussaini is a Chicago-based Iranian-American visual artist and art educator. She obtained a BFA in Painting from Azad Art University in Tehran and an MFA in Non-figurative Painting from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco.

Hussaini’s series of paper-based works, ARCHIWALLS, is an abstract visualization inspired by harmonious, but not necessarily identical, repetitive forms in nature. She implicates the basic primordial desires of social behavior and relationships by emphasizing the differences in each form as part of a movement, phenomenon, or social event. Her use of newspaper questions the contemporary human condition as bombarded with information and news. The paper forms therefore critique the lack of opportunity to control, disseminate, validate, or respond to information.

Azadeh Hussaini: ARCHIWALLS will be exhibited in the second floor gallery of the Art Center. The opening reception and panel discussion are free and open to the public. Join us for a panel discussion with Azadeh Hussaini and Leili Adibfar, PhD Candidate, Modern and Contemporary Art with an Emphasis on Iran at UIC.
