Nov 23rd 2019

Please join us for a Gallery Talk with Indira Freitas Johnson and a performance by Carron Little at the Closing Reception for the exhibition, “Truth as a Contested Concept” on Saturday, November 23 from 2 to 4 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

Award winning artist and educator, Indira Freitas Johnson invites exhibiting artists to share their thoughts about the theme of the show and share insights into their work on display.

Artist, Carron Little creates interactive performance art inspired by poetry she has written interviewing the public. Utopic Dialectics was initially inspired by the nomination of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court and the ongoing forms of oppressive communication instilled by the spectacle of our current state of politics in America. Gendered violence and oppressive forms of communication is central to the visual content explored in this performance. The piece incorporates one of Carron’s people poems written for Jose Hernandez who now goes by Rose Hernandez. The work poetically makes the invisible visible and creates space for us, collectively to raise the questions of gendered violence and gendered communication. The presentation will focus on facets of women through the ages while also exploring historic truths.

The event is free and open to the public.
