Participate in a Night of Performance and Open Mic with Segundo Ruiz Belvis Cultural Center and the Muslim American Leadership Alliance.
Performances will promote tolerance, cultural understanding, equality and justice through the lens of the Afro-Puerto Rican and Muslim American communities’ history and diversity. The lineup of performers featured will include poetry, spoken word, song, music, comedy, and readings.
Bomba con Buya, Chicago’s preeminent bomba (Afro-Puerto Rican music) group will close the evening, celebrating the intersection of social justice and music in Puerto Rico. Their latest album “Southern Sessions” (2019) shows again their commitment to the preservation of the oldest forms of music from Puerto Rico. Throughout history Bomba has been present in the many fights that have taken, and are taking place in the island against slavery, corruption, and colonialism. Buya’s performance will highlight songs in their repertoire that bring light to this tradition.

Inherit Chicago is a month-long festival of intercultural art, ideas and performance at neighborhood heritage institutions brought to you by Chicago Cultural Alliance. It is the first and only intercultural festival that highlights the rich diversity across the city’s neighborhoods, and promotes cultural and community understanding.
The Chicago Cultural Alliance is a 501(c)3 non-profit in the state of Illinois with a mission to support, connect and promote centers of cultural heritage for a more inclusive and culturally vibrant Chicago. We hope that Inherit Chicago offers Chicagoans a chance to explore more about their own roots, and a chance to learn more about others. The funds from World Dumpling Fest go to support this cause, and our mission to support our membership of 36 cultural heritage centers.
