PAMELA FRASER

@ Paris London Hong Kong

1709 W Chicago Ave, Chicago, IL 60622

Opening Friday, March 1st, from 5PM - 8PM

On view through Saturday, April 13th

Paris London Hong Kong is pleased to invite you to Pamela Fraser’s first exhibition at the gallery. The installation will feature the artist’s most recent paintings, works on paper and ceramics. An opening reception for Pamela takes place on Friday, March 1st from 5 – 8pm; the exhibition continues until April 13th.

This exhibition by Pamela Fraser connects two new bodies of work that are a departure from the spare abstract paintings the artist made for many years. The two bodies of work are connected by their lyricism, fullness, and dynamic, effective color. Inspired by the textile designs of mid-century architect and designer Josef Frank, the chaotic botanical imagery of the paintings explores color and diverse modes of visual description. Each painting catalogs different ways that flowers can be described visually, based on both observation and/or imagination. Fraser’s longstanding interest in abstraction has migrated into small, intensely-hued geometric-designed ceramic vessels that also explore color relationships, and expands the artist’s practice into design.

Pamela Fraser received her BFA in Painting from the School of Visual Arts in New York and her MFA in New Genres from the University of California, Los Angeles. Solo shows include the Blaffer Museum at The University of Houston, Houston (2013); Golden Gallery, Chicago (2010); 1K Projectspace, Amsterdam (2010); Casey Kaplan, New York (2007, 2000, 1998, 1996); and Galerie Schmidt Maczollek, Cologne (2009, 2005); and her work is represented by Galerie Anke Schmidt in Cologne, Germany. She is the author of How Color Works: Color Theory in the 21st Century (Oxford, 2019) and co-editor of Beyond Critique: Contemporary Art in Practice, Theory, and Instruction (Bloomsbury, 2017). She is an Associate Professor at the University of Vermont, and lives and works in rural Vermont.
