Three non-human characters—a mycelium culture, a cloud, and a rock—ask themselves and their surroundings questions concerning time, the sacred, ecological collapse, and economy. Through poetic mutations of scientific language, The Issue You Mentioned Earlier proposes the use of concepts such as stability, thermodynamics, pressure, and circulation to draft an aesthetic of political and emotional adaptation in critical and catastrophic times. The work pushes beyond linguistic determinism to extend our means of understanding and engaging with the biological and the social.
Mycelium networks sustain the vegetable world and, therefore, the animal. The Issue You Mentioned Earlier asks what knowledge the fungi brain can offer us, an always inter-connected species dependent on invisible social networks. The cloud interrogates the meteorological implications of human emotions and, vice versa, the emotional aspects of meteorology, while the rock holds the unaccountable time beyond both worlds and the velocities and politics between them.
