Sis, U Belong Here

@ Rootwork Gallery

645 W 18th St, Chicago, IL 60616

Opening Saturday, February 9th, from 10AM - 2PM

The theme of Sis, U Belong Here, Series II @ Rootwork Gallery, Dec 2018 – Oct 2019, is:

Reclaimed Lives: Persistence, Patience & Pardon
At the heart of this reclamation are persistence, patience & pardon (aka –forgiveness) for ourselves & others. Black Women are invited to go beyond the surface to engage in a collaborative process of BECOMING, BELONGING, and BEING visible.

Through a combination of individual, small and large group interactive activities, creative expression & the arts will be used to: create, maintain and hold space; wholly engage our emotions and fully express ourselves; build our capacity for resistance, joy and pleasure; promote connection and collaboration; dismantle shame, guilt, indecisiveness and isolation; support the strength and power of vulnerability; move beyond merely sustaining ourselves, to having a healthy sense of belonging; remind us of our self-worth; strengthen our knowingness that we’re the experts of our own experience!

Creative expression includes: breathing, embodiment, movement, creative writing, storytelling, art-making and visualization.

To this end, we’ll gather as a form of resistance, radical self-care (community-care), and as a declaration that we are meant to survive, thrive and L I V E. We gather because we deserve to be here. right here. right now.

We gather because a sense of belonging is key to our well-being!
