Final Resting Place Gallery is pleased to announce Maria Tzeka: Moments, an exhibition of artist Maria Tzeka’s recent photographic work. Come by Final Resting Place on Sunday February 17, 2019 from 1-6pm to enjoy the opening of Moments.
Moments will feature 5 photographs by Maria Tzeka as well as an exhibition catalogue. These prints are enlarged from 35mm color negatives and developed using a chromogenic process. Tzeka is interested in exploring the technical and emotional experiences of using analog photography.
The subjects of the works range from windows, light and plants to interior spaces. In Tzeka’s photographs these objects and phenomena become collected moments that can trigger emotions of peace and tranquility. ”A photographer is synonymous with being a moment collector,” Tzeka says and these moments then captured and displayed become more than ‘subjects’. They become “the balance between subject, environment, lighting and composition.” It is this balance that for Tzeka, makes them worth ‘collecting.’
Of her analog process Tzeka says, “While digital has its time and place, its dominance and convenience in the field has decreased the need to keep traditional printing alive. My work aims to support the individuals who continue to process film and make prints from them.”
Maria Tzeka is an interdisciplinary artist based out of Chicago, IL. In 2011 she obtained a BFA in Interactive Arts & Media from Columbia College Chicago.
A show catalogue will be produced by Final Resting Place as a companion to Moments.
