Diane Christiansen

@ Northeastern Illinois University Art Department

5500 N Saint Louis Ave, Chicago, IL 60625

Opening Thursday, February 21st, from 3PM - 4PM

On view through Friday, March 15th

Join us for a chat with Diane Christiansen in conjunction with her solo exhibition, The Difference Between Looking Down and Looking Up, at the NEIU Fine Arts Center Gallery. The exhibition will open on February 13th and run through March 15th, 2019.

Diane Christiansen’s prolific art practice includes painting, drawing, animation and installation. Each of her mediums informs the other resulting in a conversation that is accessible yet complex. While the viewer is left to fill the dialogue of these conversations, one might imagine the characters conversing to be a combination of a Paleolithic cave painter, Hel (the Norse goddess of the underworld), Nancy Spero, and a Navajo shaman. Christiansen mediates this conversation fluidly resulting in a powerful, yet peaceful, visual experience.

Christiansen’s educational background includes a B.A. from Grinnell College and an M.F.A. from the School of the Art Institute, Chicago. Her work has been extensively shown throughout the United States and in Europe. She is represented by Rule Gallery in Denver, CO.

There will be a reception for the artist on Friday March 8th, 6-9pm.

All events take place in the gallery and are free and open to the public. Please direct all inquiries to Heather Weber, Director/Curator, at h-weber@neiu.edu.F
