The Riverside Arts Center’s Freeark Gallery and Sculpture Garden is pleased to announce two new exhibitions, with an opening reception on Sunday, October 14 from 3-6pm. Sarah and Joseph Belknap’s We Are Beasts is installed in the RAC’s outdoor Sculpture Garden, and “Andreas Fischer: Are You OK?” is on view in the Freeark Gallery. Both exhibitions are curated by Claudine Isé, Director of the Riverside Art Center’s Freeark Gallery + Sculpture Garden.
With “We are Beasts,” questions of what–and where–our humanity has brought us take a turn outward, towards the Cosmos. Chicago artists Sarah Belknap and Joseph Belknap unveil a new installation of wildly colorful, grand-scale “meteorites” in various arrested positions. Here, the Belknaps present viewers with a field of strikingly poetic objects that posit terrestrial bodies–in this case, our own human bodies and the trees, rocks and other foliage of the Sculpture Garden — in provocative relation to minor celestial bodies like meteorites, which we normally think of as impossibly far away in time and space.
