Yasuhiro Ishimoto: Someday, Chicago: Curator Tour

@ DePaul Art Museum

935 W Fullerton Ave, Chicago, IL 60614

Opening Saturday, September 8th, at 2PM

On view through Sunday, December 16th

Jasmine Alinder, co-curator of Yasuhiro Ishimoto: Someday, Chicago, offers a guided tour and gallery conversation of the exhibition that examines the work of American-born Japanese photographer Yasuhiro Ishimoto (1921–2012) through the lens of his relationship to Chicago. Ishimoto lived in the city for over a decade and would continue to return throughout his life.

Alinder addresses Ishimoto’s life and artistic practice, highlighting the influence the city—where he arrived in 1945 after having been interned during World War II—had on his photography. It was in Chicago that he first developed his uniquely modernist vision—from his studies at the historic Institute of Design (ID) where he encountered László Moholy-Nagy, Harry Callahan, Aaron Siskind, and other teachers; and in the city’s streets, where he captured images reflective of the societal shifts happening across the United States.

This event is free and open to the public. The venue is wheelchair accessible.
