Opening Thursday, September 27th, from 5PM - 8PM
Please join Filter Photo in kicking off the 10th Annual Filter Photo Festival with a Welcome Reception at the Museum of Contemporary Photography, immediately followed by the Festival Keynote Lecture by Mona Kuhn.
During the Welcome Reception, mix and mingle with friends and colleagues and view the current exhibitions at the MoCP, “Lucas Foglia: Human Nature” and “View Finder: Landscape and Leisure in the Collection.” Refreshments will be provided.
Additionally, stop by the Columbia College Chicago darkroom on the 10th floor where visiting artist and workshop instructor, Keliy Anderson-Staley, will be making wet plate collodion portraits with her 8″ × 10” field camera. Only a limited number of portraits can be made and will be first come, first served, but everyone is welcome to observe the process.
This event is FREE and open to the public.
Immediately following the Reception, join Filter Photo in Columbia College Chicago’s Ferguson Auditorium for the Festival Keynote Lecture by Mona Kuhn.
Mona Kuhn is best known for her large-scale photographs of the human form. Her approach is unusual in that she develops close relationships with her subjects, resulting in images of remarkable intimacy, and creating the effect of people naked but comfortable in their own skin. In addition, Kuhn’s playful combination of visual strategies, such as translucency explores our connectedness with the environment. A sublime sense of comfort and intelligence permeates her works, showing the human body in its most natural state while simultaneously re-envisioning the nude as a contemporary canon of art.
The 2018 Filter Photo Festival Keynote Lecture is made possible with the generous support of Headline Sponsor, Columbia College Chicago Photography Department.
