Excavations – a solo exhibition of work by Christopher Ottinger and
Liminal Creature – a solo window exhibition of collages by Lorca Jolene

Christopher Ottinger is a Chicago based artist and educator. He earned his MFA in Studio Arts from Washington University in St. Louis and his BA at Columbia College Chicago in Film/Video Directing. Ottinger uses various media technologies to envision new histories and alternative uses for technical objects, employing an “object oriented” approach to Media Archaeology. His art has been exhibited throughout the United States and Europe, including the Mildred Lane Kemper Art Museum, Laumeier Sculpture Park, the Museum London in Ontario, Canada, Bert Green Fine Art, and the Chicago Artists Coalition. He is currently a Lecturer in the department of Film, Video, New Media, and Animation at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

Lorca Jolene is a self-taught collage artist from Chicago who pieces together characters that claim and communicate ambiguous and in-between spaces related to gender and sanity. They draw from their experiences as mentally ill queer person and their knowledge of psychological phenomena like face blindness, alexithymia, proprioception, and trauma to create archetypes and mythos that present ambivalence and paradox as powerful and creative, rather than defective or toxic.
