Opening Tuesday, May 15th, from 7PM - 9PM
Lack of courtesy, empathy, taste or consideration.Fear of the earth dying, fear of femininity forever subjugated by man. Despair over complicity in white supremacy, elitism, faceism and ableism.Despair over the extinction of animals, joy over the extinction of man.
Jill Lloyd Flanagan
Carol Genetti is a Chicago-based vocalist whose work extends to sound and visual art media. Her palette is primordial, existing in a space where “language” and “music” have yet to be formed and formulated into familiar cultural patterns. Genetti’s aesthetic is one of raw power, yet also delicate, subtle, and precise. An exquisite soloist, she is often also heard in the company of other improvising musicians. She has been performing in North America and Europe, mostly as a vocal improviser, mostly in collaborations with other musicians, including Jack Wright, Eric Leonardson, Bob Marsh, Peter Maunu, Olivia Block, Andrew Clinkman, Katherine Young, Jon Mueller, Albert Wildeman, Rob Jacobs and Jim Baker.
Rob Jacobs is the idea person behind the band Wei Zhongle, who have released 6 albums with many different lineups. In addition, he makes more traditionally song and voice oriented music under his own name. He also likes to improvise with different musicians, one of which is local favorite Carol Genetti.
Gather is an experimental music series bringing musicians from different scenes, backgrounds, practices, disciplines, and communities together for connection and artistic exchange. We curate this series with our attention toward introducing musicians who may not otherwise cross paths and whose works dialogue in compelling ways. By doing so, we hope to leave potential for collaboration and familiarity amongst different experimental music forms in Chicago. Gather is curated by Allen Moore, Nick Meryhew, and Rebecca Himelstein
