SSSSHHHH is a series of listening events focusing on text-sound and acoustic works which explore the phonemic characteristics of language. The compositions included are texts meant to be sounded and heard. The works in this series explore the potential to aurally enhance language through an engagement with language considered primarily as units of sound rather than solely as units of meaning. Emphasis will be placed on voice in relation to electro-acoustics, sound tuning, amplification and recording equipment, and on works composed for multiple voices.

SSSSHHHH #1 includes performances by: Sherae Rimpsey, Rohan Ayinde Smith, Yitian Yan, Katherine Virginia Wood, and Kamau Amu Patton.

Organized by Kamau Amu Patton (Faculty, Visual and Critical Studies) in collaboration with Flaxman Library Special Collections. SSSSHHHH will take place every 1st Tuesday.
