Opening Saturday, February 3rd, from 4PM - 8PM

On view through Saturday, March 17th

We are very excited to announce our 3rd exhibition at our permanent pop–up space in River North near Chicago and Wells. It’s this Saturday, February 3rd with an Artist’s Reception from 4 – 8 PM. If you didn’t know we are open 5 days a week from 11 to 4 PM. Weekdays you should call first (312.649.0064). Otherwise you can just show up on Saturdays from 11 to 4 and we will be there.

Catherine Jacobi’s Things of this World opens, and its part of a planned arc for variation, visually and conceptually. Catherine might have fit in our last show, as she often hits the obsessive notes that abounded in Concrete, Paper, and Plastic. But she is turning things around this time out… going the opposite direction. Not over working and over thinking… trying to let things be. The work is Duchampian, Rauschenbergian, and Cornelian if she’ll let me say that. And monochromatic might be another descriptor. So the opposite of what I might normally do too.

It’s a beautiful and dramatic show. I hope you can make it in.

Here’s some notes from Catherine….

Most recently my work has been influenced by poet Richard Wilbur’s comment about writing poetry.

“I do think it’s almost always true that a poem begins when two things, perhaps an inner thing and an outer thing which hadn’t been together before, suddenly converge and feel as if they wanted to make something new.”
In this work, everyday objects from the simplest and most overlooked places reference basic human nature and anatomy. Years of collected newspapers, photos, kitchen tables and chairs, outboard propellers, and baby shoes, all bound to be discarded or at the very least dismissed, leverage the “something new.”
Starting these conversations in the vernacular, engages what one already knows, juxtaposes and constructs. It is a common commentary that the constancy of objects, which endure in our memories, only ever change.
Jacobi has a Master of Fine Arts in Sculpture (1987) from Cranbrook Academy of Art, and a Bachelor of Fine Arts Sculpture (1985) from Drake University, Des Moines, IA.
