Monthly artist opening reception for Evanston artist Jim Parks!
Come see the kick off of our first monthly featured (always local) artist. “Bloomz” showcases various sized works of flowers from an Evanston backyard to global blossoms.
“Flowers were designed by Nature to attract attention, so I give them starring roles in my paintings. But I hope you don’t stop there. I want you to lean in close and peer into all the action in the surrounding vegetation. That’s where you’ll see shapes and colors frolicking like children…the “abstract” in “botanical abstract.”
I think of these paintings as “my girls.” Like a parent who loves his children, I acknowledge their wildly different personalities: one is loud and defiant, another is refined; one is a string quartet, another is acid rock. Each pulses with a a singular personality.
Vincent Van Gogh’s playground was painting the texture of the world. You can feel the stalks of his blue irises in your hand and feel the coolness of the breeze as it sweeps across his wheat field. I keep dear Vincent in mind as I apply each stroke, hoping each patch of paint adds a bit more vibrancy to my canvas. I often paint a swirl or twisted branch into my pieces as an homage to his remarkable vision.
With that, I present The Bloomz Collection. ” Jim Parks
