Carlos Matallana: Democracy TBD

@ Compound Yellow

244 Lake St, Oak Park, IL, 60302

Opening Saturday, November 4th, from 2PM - 5PM

On view through Friday, January 20th

SRS + Carlos Matallana

A sequential set of the sculptural pieces (letter-size folded paper) will explore the evolution of the most common forms of government in human history until today. An additional segment of sculptures will raise questions about the future of the ‘democracy’ we know today.

A series of workshops (free and open to the public) will address these questions by gathering experienced voices (parents, economists, lawyers, government officials, lobbyists, artists, educators, journalists, health workers) as every participant from their own perspective will try to verbalize their take in the future of democracy while translating it into folded paper.

These folded sculptures made during the workshop will be added as sculptural answers while the verbal Q&A would be published as a podcast.

Free Paper Folding Workshop Dates, 2-4pm:

11/18/17: Government institutions – Education, Health, Government, Finance

12/9/17: Community led institutions: Media – Parents and Teachers associations, Private institutions, Finance, Education, Social Media

1/20/18: Embracing new spaces or reinterpretation of existing spaces – The new rules in politics; The ‘Celebritician’ or ‘Policelebrity’ and its future; Most vulnerable social institutions
