University of Wisconsin Professor Fred Stonehouse, will speak as part of The Elgin Community College Humanities Center Speaker Series on Thursday, March 9. His lecture and presentation, You’re Weird, will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. in Building G, Spartan Auditorium at the college’s Main Campus, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin. The event is free and open to the public.

Stonehouse is a professional artist and associate professor of art at the University of Wisconsin. He presently teaches painting and drawing, where he has taught for the past ten years. His first solo show in Chicago in 1983 begin his prolific career, exhibiting as a professional artist for over 30 years.

Originally from Milwaukee, WI, Stonehouse received his Bachelor of Fine Arts from University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee. Although his primary mediums are painting and drawing, he has also worked in sculpture and installation. Stonehouse’s artwork has been included in numerous exhibitions at national and international. He exhibits regularly with Howard Scott Gallery in New York City, Carl Hammer Gallery in Chicago, Tory Folliard Gallery in Milwaukee and other prominent gallery across the US. He has exhibited internationally in Mexico, Amsterdam, Rome, Milan, Berlin, Hamburg and Essen.

Recently, Stonehouse was the subject for a mid-career exhibition at Museum of Wisconsin Art. Stonehouse has been the recipient of numerous grants and awards, including the NEA Arts Midwest Grant and the Joan Mitchell Foundation Individual Artists Grant.

New paintings and works on paper, The Silent Singers, will be exhibited in Safety-Kleen Gallery One in the Building H Arts Center from Tuesday, March 7 to Saturday, April 8, 2017. Gallery hours are M/W 10am – 5pm, Tu/Th 10am – 7pm, and F-Su by appointment. An opening reception for the exhibit will be held on Thursday, March 9, from 5 to 7 p.m. in Safety-Kleen Gallery. This event is free and open to the public.
