Come to a closing for the Studio Oh! show inspired by graffiti and street art. The purpose is to capture the transient nature of graffiti to allow it a permanent base within institutional art.
Contemporary graffiti grew in popularity in the 1970’s onto subway cars, trains and city buildings becoming recognized as a public exhibition and as an act of defiance. The combination of stylized letters and symbolism is a form of self-expression to give a voice to the voiceless. These artists have spent several years mastering and rendering their craft to translate from the streets to a traditional gallery setting.
