“Never Waiver” When Pouring Dark Matter
Opening Reception Friday, November 4, 2016, 6-9pm, Artists’ Talk 7pm

Come for Dark Matter coffee, and, we promise, you will stay for the art. Dark Matter is brewing something special at Gallery19 in honor of artists Jason Brammer, Ahmed Ozsever, Gillion Carrara and Eric Carbrey.

Authentic brew. Chicago collectors will immediately recognize the imprimatur of Jason Brammer in these trompe l’oeil paintings recalling the rich exoticism of Silk Road trade routes. His erotic compression of past, present, and future into images rife with intricate pattern and velvety color delights and deceives the eye. Dark matter coffee was quick to recognize Brammer’s talents when they commissioned him to interpret the walls of their coffee shops, Osmium and Meddle, as well as their coffee truck.

Another pour? Ahmed Ozsever, spouse of Dark Matter partner Carrie Cooper, employs his photography to transform Gallery19’s second gallery into a de-constructed space for contemplation of absence through the residue of what once was. Ozsever elevates that which would normally go unnoticed to images so patient and beautiful, they beg for recognition. The 30” x 30” photos are thoughtfully presented on 1” custom Oak mounts. Ozsever can be heard preaching the gospel of art as a lecturer at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC).

The cup is overflowing. Gillion Carrara, Director of the Fashion Resource Center, also at SAIC, is represented by jewelry and accessories created from a provocative combination of woods, metals, and minerals. Oversized bangles, rings, shaving brushes, and other elegant desirables are designed for those daring enough to engage in the practice of wearing and using functional art. Carrara’s hand is ever present in these flawlessly executed pieces. As an international lecturer/educator, Carrara speaks eloquently of the artist’s dual role as creator and conservator to the world around us…

Good to the last drop. Those who have never experienced Eric Carbrey’s precisely rendered contemporary Op Art will not soon forget these chunky, collectible paintings. Imagine a commingling of mechanical parts, Legos, and toy building blocks, rendered in daring color on wood panels. Carbrey’s obsessive, multi-step, creative process belies the colorful floating eye candy he produces. And, like a bowl of M&Ms, you can’t take just one.

Opening reception for “Never Waiver” is Friday, November 4th, 6-9pm, with an artists’ talk at 7pm. Bites and beverages will be served.

“Never Waiver” opens November 4, 6-9pm. Exhibition runs through December 30, 2016. Gallery19 is at 4839 N. Damen Ave. 773-420-8071.
