Presented in conjunction with the exhibition “Our New System,” this artist talk by Christa Donner will focus on motherhood and the body as visceral, contested, and generative spaces in artistic production.

Christa Donner (b.1975) is a Chicago-based artist, zinestress, teacher, curator and mother. She explores issues that relate to the physical self as both an internal experience and in relationship to external factors. Donner’s solo exhibitions include Seeing [between] Knowing at Aviatrix, Berlin; HOM/E\MBODY at Plug Projects, Kansas City; The Making of Mutualism at Hudson Valley College, Troy, New York; Re:Production at threewalls, Chicago; and Pretty on the Insides at the Museum of Contemporary Art Cleveland. Her residencies include the Max Planck Institute Residency, Berlin, Germany in 2015 and in 2013 the Can Serrat Residency in El Bruc, Spain. She received her MFA in Studio Arts from the University of Illinois at Chicago in 2005. Donner currently lives and works in Chicago. In addition to her studio practice, she teaches at School of the Art Institute of Chicago and is the founder of Cultural ReProducers – a resource and community project supporting cultural producers who are also parents.
