Just published in Spring 2016, Queer is the first anthology of its kind. It marshals over 80 artists’ manifestos, essays, and interviews in order to survey queer practice and thought in global contemporary art. As the editor, David Getsy, remarked, “Rather than a book of queer theory for artists, this is a book of artists’ queer tactics and infectious concepts.”

To mark the US launch of the book, Center on Halsted and Unabridged Bookstore invites you to join David Getsy in conversation with Omar Kholeif as they discuss the organization of the book and its global aims in reframing conversations about queer lives and politics in art of the last three decades.

Queer is published by MIT Press as part of the “Documents of Contemporary Art” book series from the Whitechapel Gallery, London. A book signing sponsored by Unabridged Books will follow the public conversation.

David J. Getsy is the Goldabelle McComb Finn Distinguished Professor of Art History and Interim Dean of Graduate Studies at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Queer is his seventh book.

Omar Kholeif is the Manilow Senior Curator at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago. He was the editor for the “Documents of Contemporary Art” volume Moving Image.
