Dianna Frid and Richard Rezac make works that defy easy categorization. Each has a very refined sensibility toward material and form that pulls toward certain associations without ever fully settling into definitive terms. In this show recent works by both artists will be displayed with rare books from the Special Collections Department of DePaul’s John T. Richardson Library and a variety of objects from DPAM’s Permanent Collection. These items include a red hat from South Africa, an Iranian miniature painting covered with written notations, South American photographs from the 1930s and other objects and images. Collectively the works share formal qualities but the conversations they generate reveal surprising connections.
