Please join us for a gallery talk at THE MISSION with Regina Mamou and John Murphy, who will discuss Electrum, a site-responsive exhibition at the SUB-MISSION that scrutinizes the incorporation of pseudo-science into theological practices while disputing the Cartesian duality of the physical and spiritual enshrined in Western culture.

REGINA MAMOU (American, b. 1983) lives and works in Los Angeles and Chicago. She has exhibited internationally at the Makan Art Space in Amman, Jordan; Action Field Kodra in Thessaloniki, Greece; the Historic Water Tower Gallery in Chicago, Illinois; and the Elizabeth Foundation for the Arts in New York, New York, among others. Her work has been written about in Artforum.com, Newcity Art, Culturehall, Afterimage, and Contemporaneity. She holds an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design, and was a Fulbright fellow to Jordan.

JOHN MURPHY is a PhD candidate in Art History at Northwestern University. His research interests include the history of socialist art and the material culture of utopian communities. He co-curated the award-winning exhibition, The Left Front: Radical Art in the ‘Red Decade,’ 1929-1940, which opened at the Mary and Leigh Block Museum (Northwestern University) in 2014 and traveled to the Grey Gallery (New York University) in early 2015. He is currently a Mellon Dissertation Fellow in the American Art department at the Art Institute of Chicago.
